Microstamping Threat Back in New York
Microstamping Threat Back in New York
Anti-gun legislators from New York City have once again introduced firearms microstamping legislation (A. 1157, Assembly Codes Committee) that would result in banning firearms in the Empire State. If microstamping were to become law, firearms manufacturers would be forced to employ a patented, sole-sourced concept that independent studies, including those from the National Academy of Sciences and the University of California at Davis, found to be flawed and easily defeated by criminals. Passage of this bill could result in layoffs of factory workers throughout New York as manufacturers, already being heavily lobbied by tax and gun friendly states, consider moving out of New York. Furthermore, firearms manufacturers could be forced to abandon the New York market altogether rather than spend the astronomical sums of money needed to completely reconfigure their manufacturing and assembly processes. This would directly impact law enforcement, firearms retailers and their law-abiding customers.
"This is an extraordinarily dangerous bill," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane. "As legislation that would mandate microstamping not only threatens law-abiding gun owners but our industry's ability to supply the nation's law enforcement officers and military with high-quality firearms, we encourage all citizens of New York to contact members of the Codes Committee and their assemblyman today and urge them to oppose A. 1157, firearms microstamping.
Learn more about microstamping by viewing the NSSF Microstamping Fact Sheet.

Crossbows in Nys Big Game Use.
Crossbows in Nys Big Game Use.
How is crossbow hunting for big game in NYS going to be received? I know many hunters are looking forward to the new crossbow season this fall. There is no special lic. required. You will simply need any of DEC's licenses that allow big game hunting. If you are using a crossbow during the late muzzleloading or bowhunting seasons, you will need to have the required privileges for those late seasons. Here are the crossbow and bolt in NYS Law-The crossbow must have a stock with a working safety, and a minimum limb of 17 inches. It must have a minimum peak draw weight of 100 pounds, and a maximum peak draw weight of 200 pounds. The overall length (butt of stock to front of the limbs) must be at least 24 inches. A bolt (the term used for the "arrow" shot from a crossbow) must be at least 14 inches long (excluding the point).Crossbows may not be used by anyone during the early bowhunting season.Crossbows can be used Only during the REGULAR firearms seasons in the Northern and Southern Zone, during the LATE muzzleloading and bowhunting seasons, and during the January firearms season in Suffolk County, beginning with the 2011-2012 hunting seasons and continuing until December 31, 2012. You may use a crossbow during the LATE special seasons (bowhunting and muzzleloading) after the close of the regular season. All these facts are from the NYS DEC.
Although the bill is now law, the major changes do not go into effect until February 1, 2011. This means that you cannot use a crossbow until the 2011-2012 hunting seasons.

NY lawmakers want 30-bullet clip banned
New York Sen. Eric Adams says the state should outlaw 30-bullet clips for them to help prevent another incident like the Arizona shooting that killed six people and wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and 12 others.Adams and other lawmakers have introduced legislation to ban the clips in New York regardless of when they were made. The assault weapon ban allows for Hi-Cap Mags If manufactured before 1994. Along with weapons made before this are subject to no restrictions under The assault weapon ban.So if a person has a assault style weapon it is legal to have Hi- Cap mags manufactured be the 1994 date. The Mags mostly are not marked. From 1994-2004 firearms makers were required to mark Hi-cap mags with Law enforcement use only. After the federal ban was lifted in 2004 this is no longer required.Nys kept the Federal ban in Place as its law.For Assault style weapons.I think the reason for most to have these Hi-Cap Mags is because they can.No other reason. The hi-Cap clips are also an issue with pistols also not just rifles.I think the issue is moot, as if someone is going to use a gun in a crime they don't care if the gun is legal or not. With all the gun control we have in this country criminals still get guns. More laws are not the answer to our problems.Social issues play a bigger part in the gun abuse problems. There is no easy answer to this complicated issue. What is the answer?
